Is there a model number for the brother machine you mentioned that will not activate the needle if the presser foot is up? Also, does any other manufacturer make a machine with this feature. I am gifting to 6 and 8 years olds for Christmas and have been misguided regarding Brother, now must do returns and find machines hopefully with this feature. Any help?

I followed your instructions and started with sewing straight lines on paper, and moved on to your maze.
My granddaughter is 7, and I was amazed!
She measured and cut out the fabric for a scrunchie.
I had the confidence to leave her to it, but close by so that she could shout or I could hear if something was going wrong.
Apart from turning the tube through and the elastic she did it all herself.
She then decided to make one for her friend too.
